Starting labrador retriever training should be at the top of your list as soon as you bring your new puppy home. This is a dog that loves family life and food so a good training and exercise regime are paramount.

Dog training in any form but in this instance labrador retriever training revolves around the tones in your voice. You have to think about this at an early stage. If your dog associates a happy tone to your voice when you can call to them, the command “come” will be much easier to achieve. Any command would start with that sort of tone but with a slightly sterner edge to it if you are starting the “sit” command for example.

If you are consistent in your approach and tone, this reinforcement will help in your labrador retriever training.

That consistency is key throughout all of your labrador retriever training. If you make it enjoyable as well (and this is a fun dog) then you will get there much quicker. If you ensure that there is variety then you avoid both you and your dog starting to **** the sessions or getting bored.

Some tips to take into account when you start Labrador retriever training.

1. Slowly and in small doses. If you have a new puppy then 10 or 15 minutes a day would be sufficient in the first few weeks. This can build up slowly over time and this will ensure that your dog keeps focused and interested. Like any form of dog training, labrador retriever training can be hard to start off with, particularly with this breed, which can be a boisterous one! If you start small and slow, and accept that it will take time, there is less chance of your patience being taxed and this translating to the tone in your voice.

2. Good behavior should be rewarded immediately as you want your dog to associate that acceptable behavior with rewards and praise. That will over time, reinforce the message. This is not to say that you should punish bad behavior, there are methods for dealing with that sort of behavior and they do not include force.

3. Consistency is key. Keep demonstrating what you want them to do in the session, don’t let up until they begin to grasp it. Dogs are not human and never will be, they are also very unlikely to start a conversation with us that we can understand! A dog will eventually start to understand what you want if you are consistent.

4. When you are Labrador retriever training, it is important to retain your patience. There is not point in taking out your frustration on your dog. They won’t get it and its counter productive. Never call your dog to you and shout at them. The connection they will make is obvious and you may end up with a dog that simply fails to respond.

5. Watch your Labrador with an eye to bad behavior and correct it immediately without using force. Positive reinforcement of good behavior is best.

Good Labrador retriever training leads to a well adjusted happy animal. This is a very popular breed for good reason, they make excellent family pets and can be trained to do all sorts of things if you start early and follow a plan.
