Anybody would let you know that a German shepherd is a good dog to own. They are faithful, intelligent and can risk their life to save their owner. However, do note that not just any person can own a German shepherd. A German shepherd requires an owner who will expend time in training and in play.

German shepherds are tall dogs (22-26 inches) that need training to be tractable. They can also bite in a manner that few breeds can! It’s no wonder they are utilized as protection dogs and police dogs.

But don’t give up on owning a German shepherd simply because they can be a handful. Some individual qualities can displace the dog breed qualities. This canine can follow instructions to the letter so it’s worthwhile to train him.

What prompts a dog to be aggressive?

Aggression is a feature of the breed, which can deter his training’s development. If you want to be able to curb antagonism, read all the materials you can about German shepherds. You can start by being calm and non-confrontational around your dog. You do not want your canine to develop dislike towards you.

The German shepherd shows belligerence by growling, chewing, biting and barking. One of the main reasons they are protective and aggressive is because German Shepherds have a suspicious and territorial nature. They would let go of a juicy bone just to bark at strangers that come near.

Another factor that prompts their aggressive behavior is poor socialization. Young young puppies that have been far from their litter before eight weeks miss socializing with their mothers and the rest of the litter. Expect your canine to feel uncomfortable in the midst of a crowd.

On the other hand, some shepherds are aggressive because they have suffered mistreatment from the hands of their preceding owners. Like humans, signs of disturbance are evident in puppies.

Hostility may be brought on by the dog’s adjustment period in a household. He’s in search of a master to follow so that he would not take that role himself!

How can you manage your dog’s aggression?

Lucky for you, that if you research well about German shepherds properly and be positive in your managing them, soon you’ll have the great pet for yourself.

As his or her owner, you need to set up who the master is whenever you bring your dog home. This is very important for training progress. This can be done by giving your pet clear commands and commands in a firm and assertive tone that compels the German shepherd to acknowledge you as the Alpha leader. Do not give it a free rein or give into its affecting brown eyes!

If your attitude is wishy-washy, your dog will find it hard to follow you. From day one, set the principles of leadership. Why is that? This breed is the happiest when it is under the manage of an Alpha leader.

He requires training each day. Training day after day will ensure that your canine doesn’t stray from the right path. Keep your canine active and in training. Teach basics like barking on command, sitting and lying down. A straightforward thing to do would be to teach him to sit down whenever he has to eat something. Only give the reward when your dog obeys! Let him know who’s boss! This is really a basic mental method for training a new dog.

As long as you stay the master and be kind with your canine simultaneously, you can expect a good friendship ahead!
