German Shepherds. From REAL German Shepherds to what we have today. SAD.
German Shepherds have suffered the same fate as many other breeds under the umbrella of the AKC, the Kennel Club and many other organizations who claim to “protect” man’s best friend. The truth is of course a completely different story. Fleeting fashion, breeder whims and the monetary gain resulting from the sale of sick and or deformed animals are the reasons why dogs are only bred for “beauty” these days. A healthy dog is a beautiful dog in my opinion. Any exaggeration which results in a suffering and sometimes downright crippled dog should be punished instead of rewarded. Unfortunately all these people care about is a dog that has the current trend’s look so they can sell their animals to people who then will be stuck with a sick and suffering family member. I have addressed this issue many times before regarding different breeds with very predictable results… While dog owners who have suffered along with their four legged loved ones agree and support my exposing these practices, many breeders called me a liar and got downright nasty with me. Of course a breeder will be upset because exposing their inhumane practices results in less sales of their “product”. Dogs are NOT a “product” but living, feeling beings and we should make sure that only good breeders who understand this will be rewarded. Dogs should be bred for health first, temperament second and then for looks. Unfortunately the AKC and most big dog registries allow and reward breeders to create “beautiful b…/b

In eastern europe and in germany they are now breeding gsd“s with more straighter back, bigger bodies and bigger heads. So I hope in the future the show breed will be totally replaced with the working breed lines

German Sheperds are my absolute favorite breed! I have seen “real” German Shepherds but on very rare occassions. This is a beautiful breed and needs to be protected. With any species though breeding for “looks” is wrong and inhuman. Look at the parot chichlid….it suffers as well. The Golden Retriever is another breed of canine that has been breed in masses due to demand but at what cost?! Thank you for posting this video and I will support in fighting with you on this!

My family has now owned German shepherds for about 70 years. I have a photo of my father at 6 months of age ( he’s currently 65 ) with his hand in the mouth of one one of my grandmother’s dogs ( she had them for 50 years ). My current ***** from ” working lines ” doesn’t have much of a slope to her back and has had no health problems. Her weight is 31kgs. During the 80′s we had a top ***** that weighed in around 40-45kg’s. My current ***** WILL be the last shepherd my family own. Just sad.

Have a beautiful LC GSD who was imported from Germany 11 yrs ago. She has DM, degenerative myelopathy – sort of MS in the dog world. Her back end is failing and it is such a sad time for her. Her heart is still as big as ever but her body is failing. I love this breed – she is the 4th in my life. Don’t know about getting another one…
Thank you for this very informative video.

@tommywilkerson
I think you should breed your dog. We need more healthy and functional dogs my friend.

@supaflyz
Straight up you got a better dog. Who cares what fashion is in right now. A healthy and functional dog is always more beautiful.

I agree that the breed is being destroyed. It started with good intention but has gone to far. I’m lucky enough to own an “Old School’ American GSD. He’s tall 28″ @ withers, straight back and smallish head compared to others in the area. A family member has been breeding and training GSD’s for 30 yrs in Germany. She considers my dog trash.
Should I breeding him? I thought about it but evry time I see an SPCA comercial I change my mind.

Most of the dogs look like they had slanted back. THey don’t look capable of doing many activities. GSD are also prone to hip displaysia. All these hunch backs going make the body structure even worse. Luckily mine is not like this. I also notice from looking at pictures that Eastern German Shepherd have a much better body structure.

My uncle gave me a very good dog because she kept on barking. The neighbors were complaining so he had to give her to me. She’s a very sweet girl. His son bought her for several thousand. So when I went to get my teeth check at his office, he ask me how was the dog. I told him she was great. He told me that she’s not like the other dog which have slanted back. Her back is more straight. When I first got her home. I thought it was strange that my dog didnt look like the expensive GSD.

@NyaahNatrix They don’t look, they are! None of them can do the job they were created to do! Such a shame!

@MandyLionWWIII
Hi ManyLionWIII. Great Video. I am looking to get GS in the U.K, more specifically London. How do I check to make sure that the breeders haven’t gone to astray and that the dogs are more natural and healthy rather than bread to have sharp steep backs (show dogs) etc?? Do you by any chance know of any breeders in London that offer healthy and greatly breed GS??

Excellent video, you are bringing awareness to a worthy cause, which will only help to improve working dogs for people, and better quality of life for dogs.

Poor things… How can they justify doing this to these animals. Whats the point of a dog meant for highly athletic work that cant even walk straight.

I have a GSD but he is like the one of 2:22.
This is so sad, poor GSD.

I watched the documentary Pedigree Dogs Exposed yesterday and thought that was a very british attitude, influenced by the nobility.
We know how marriage works in nobility (or how it worked until recently, if it changed); Nobles must marry other nobles. The bloodline above all, personal happiness doesnt’ matter. Cousin-to-cousin marriages from generation to another.
With all due respect to nobles, how can we expect them to treat their dogs any better than they treat themselves?

I **** that whole leg placement thing they do with them… its like, “oh look my dog is in a heroic pose but yeah, his legs don’t work”. :\

Don’t pay any attention to these illiterate bastards Mandy. They are morons insulting you for actually trying to take a stand and do something. Maybe if you haters on here took a look at the great person Mandy is you’d learn a thing or two. He is very caring towards animals. Dogs in particular. For those people hurling insults at Mandy **** off !

could you please tell me what measures your taking to stop this cruelty?
July 24th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
@thehomefront
Before you call someone a name you should read what I said about what is going on here.
I am ACTIVELY trying to stop this insanity from happening by fighting the kennel club and the AKC.
I put this video up to alarm people and get more people to stand up for man’s best friend.
And you are attacking me for the music in the background?
What are YOU doing to make this atrocity stop? What are YOU doing to help?
Other than getting mad at someone who’s actually doing something?
July 24th, 2011 at 10:58 pm
why are you putting happy music to something sad, you asshole
July 26th, 2011 at 4:44 pm
