Just being with your pup won’t make it learn to come. There are extensive ways in which it will greatly maximize the potency of the ability of the dog to follow orders. However, these things aren’t without a bad side. Training a dog to come isn’t easy and comes with great responsibility. It is necessary to commence with this training as early as possible because it will teach the dog to follow orders and obey almost always.

Though it may be a great thing for both when dog obeys man, training a dog to come may be tiring and boring. Calling the dog back from a fun activity such as running around, playing with saucers, and the like, is bad news for the dog. For instance, how would you like it if you were called back while playing games or doing something you like? This is a certain hindrance when training a dog to come. But might you ask, how does the owner overcome these hindrances? You can’t really. You can only do as much as minimize it as possible. Anyways, here’s how it goes.

One way in effectively training a dog to come to you is to wait for an opportune moment. One of those moments happens to be when a dog is hungry. When in this state, dogs for the most part will do anything for food. Take the old “allure” method and this will surely work if the dog is already drooling for some snacks. Stretch out the food and start barking orders. Example is, “Come here.” Most often, that’s the phrase the owner uses and it is proven to be effective, especially when the name of the dog is added to the command. As for the food, only give the food once the dog comes for a hungry dog is a motivated dog. Repeat this exercise until you see fit or if there’s no longer any need. End the session of training a dog to come if you see that the dog is not paying attention anymore.

About the rewards, you may lessen the reward each time you call upon your dog and save them for when you want to teach him more sophisticated and advanced tricks. You may also use certain objects such as chew toys to use. Call it a bribe but such is a dog’s nature. Be mindful that if you build a strong bond with your pup, its loyalty is what will be the most rewarding and before you know it, you have a friend for life.
