this video just stated the fucking obvious… If you pet a dog to stop it barking you cleary have no common sense.

Dogs bark because they have something to say. Mine bark when they need to go outside to relieve themselves. That is far superior to the alternative. Telling the dog “No!” is a lousy idea. Either it will be interpreted as a threat or it will think you are barking with the dog. You cannot deal with undesired barking without understanding what the dog is trying to say. The way to keep a dog from barking to go outside for non-pressing reasons is to make the inside a happy, interesting place.

@CtrlAltDaLEET I understand what you are trying to say. But if I’m a new pet owner and a tip like this seems to be aimed at new pet owners, I would be looking for a detailed visual explanation… especially when it’s a video from “experts”. If I’m just watching him talk and pet his dog, it wouldn’t help me much especially if I’m a new pet owner since I wouldn’t pick up what exactly what he was doing. To reiterate, if you’re going to teach us, teach us like we’re stupid, spoon feed us.

Sure it would be an added bonus if he had done that, but that is not the purpose of the video. It is kinda like a video on how to do push ups, you don’t need to see the end result but what you see now is the right technique to be trialed by yourself.
And such a video about training a dog won’t take much time out of your life, you’ve got nothing to lose.

@CtrlAltDaLEET Well, first off, the dog is not barking in the first place. So how do we know that the reason the dog is not barking is because of his training? All we have is his word for it. Giving an example such as using elapsed clips of the beginning of when the dog was barking to the final results where the dog stopped barking would’ve been more effective in showing us his method.

I don’t understand what more you want from this video, he is petting the dog for being quiet which is what he just talked about.
“How to train a dog to stop barking”, not “How to stop a dog from barking”.

@CtrlAltDaLEET He “talked” about it, he didn’t “show” us his examples. All he’s doing is standing there petting the dog, the dog isn’t even barking. He might as well have just made an article instead of a video.
