amen……this guys methods are not very good. First of all he should have a controlled environment with few distractions when beginning this type of training. You only introduce these distractions in a more advanced dog. Notice how the shepherd barely gave him the time of day? Take this posting down.

Hey USA, I train Police K9′s for a living. Your problem is very common. It can be solved however. You need to make it a reflex to come rather than a command. Make sure your dog gets paid everytime he comes to you. Keep some chopped up hotdogs on hand in the fridge. When it’s time to come in from relieving himself, always have a treat ready. If you train on this everyday for a week, 20 min per day on a long 30 ft rope you will make significant progress in making this a reflex action.

I have never trained my dog on a leash, you have to spend time with them from when they are a pup.If you train them daily then you don’t have to worry about them not listening. That’s why I think some people shouldn’t have dogs, they complain that they don’t listen but the owner/owner’s, don’t take the time to train them the proper way.

My border collie actually responds to treats. He’s fed proper proportions and gets plenty of exercise. If they are fed too much they won’t favor the treat as much. Also training should be after you tire out your dog not before when they’re hyper. They are definately the smartest dogs but treats do work.

sheesh that recall is a hard command to master yaa you can do it on a leash and my dog does it 10 out of 10 times but take that leash off and am in trouble

i agree… hes just leading the dog around and talking to much between commands, which would confuse the dog (and myself, i must say)
the dog isnt interested in the owner with all those distractions, this is why its better to train it in a quiet place first and slowly introduce the distractions (dogs, people, noise ect.)…….. otherwise its just confusing and chaos.
