Joe asked:
I’m sick of people writing answers like why do you want to make your pit bull big or muscular don’t answer with stupid stuff like that. I want to know what dog food is best for my pit, I heard that high protein foods such as timber wolf is good, but I also hear other people say that high protein foods are bad for pit bull’s because they genetically have bad livers. Someone please respond with an intellectual answer.

Iams or Purina are top of the line. I recommend Purina though, that’s what we feed our Labrador and it’s not expensive at all!

Any puppy/ or dog food that says the word Meat, lamb and rice, beef and rice.. Not a lamb meal or animal by-product.. Meat as the first ingredient.. and all should go very well.. Even the dog treats come in meat as the 1st ingredient. Iams has some meat pet food Purina One has meat as the first ingredient. You can get this Good dog food at a Wal-Mart.. and your dog won’t have lots of gas.. if he eats good food..

I spend $20 a week to feed two cats and two dogs Prey Model RAW.
Raw is great.
There is BARF and Prey Model.
I feed Prey Model because it’s better for their teeth and I don’t believe dogs need vegetation. has LOTS of great information.
Monday to Friday.
Breakfast: A chicken neck or a chicken wing.
Lunch: A couple of pieces of diced chicken OR lamb.
Dinner: A little bit of diced liver.
Saturday:
Breakfast: A whole chicken frame
Dinner: A chicken foot
Sunday:
Breakfast: A whole fish (this week I’m doing sardine)
Dinner: A whole raw egg (that includes shell)
Both my dogs get this and my cats get the same thing EXCEPT they get an extra chicken wing on a weekday evening.
It’s just 80% RMB (raw meaty bones like chicken wings, necks, thighs etc), 10% meat NOT mince, 10% offal at least half being liver.
A couple of notes:
1. Chicken bone, all bone, is safe and healthy for dogs to eat when it’s raw as soon as you cook it it splinters.
2. Dogs are digestive carnivores and nutritional omnivores meaning they can live on just animal product (not just meat but bone and organ as well), just plants or a combination BUT their digestive system prefers just animal product.
Email me your dogs age and breed and I’ll give you some information if you’re interested.
P.S My dogs are 3 1/2 months and 6 months old (both Maltese X) and my cats are 12 months and 18 months old.

Raw feeding (raw meat, raw bones, raw organ meat, and trace amounts of raw veggies) is about the healthiest diet you can get for any dog.
The healthiest kibbles are the grain-free ones like Innova EVO, Wellness Core, Orijens, and Taste of the Wild. Next to that are the quality organic foods like Wellness, Artemis, Canidae, Innova, Merrick, etc.
The WORST foods are the crap you can buy in grocery stores and Walmart- stuff like Purina, Beneful, Iams, Pedigree, etc. Nothing but empty calories and grease. It’s like feeding your dog Big Macs every day.
It’s a myth that high protein diets are hard on the kidneys/liver- this is a problem with HUMAN high protein diets, because humans are omnivores. Dogs are carnivores who depend on animal protein for the majority of their nutrition- their bodies are much better at digesting and utilizing protein than humans are. You will not hurt him by giving him a high protein diet, whether it’s raw or kibble.

I have an American Staffordshire Terrier and like APBT they have the barrel chest. For any barrel chested dog you need to avoid soy in the dog food. Although their is no proof that soy can cause bloat, there have been strong links with bloat and soy products. I have a friend who runs an Akita rescue and he said if you can’t afford an expensive food than you should try Pedigree by Purina or Purina Pro dog food. If you can give him something like Eukanuba that is what I give my dog now. We started him on pedigree when we first got him. It used to give him gas and he pooped a lot. Now that he eats Eukanuba he eats about 2 1/2 cups full only once a day in the evening, and he gets a few treats before bed. He doesn’t get gas too often now a days and he only poops once a day now. Also he’s as healthy as a horse. He is 9 yrs old and going strong. There are other good brands out there. Again as others have said make sure that it has meat, and no soy!
