Our vet was against them because he says they are high in fat and are bad for dog’s teeth. He recommended Greenies but they are very expensive. Do you know of any other options?

Milk bones are fine for treats but they certainly don’t clean the teeth. I don’t like greenies at all because they are a major choking hazard in their design and composition. Just brush your dog’s teeth. You can’t rely on any food or treat product to do it for you. Its not going to happen. Though raw soup bones will do a relatively good job provided you pick out a section without small pieces that can fall off. You’ve got to ease some dogs onto raw bones or they’ll get the runs.

Your Vet knows what he’s talking about. I was giving my dogs a milk bone and heard that they really aren’t good for them. One day I looked at the ingredients in them, and found Ethylenediamine in them. I looked it up on Google, and it astonished me at what this actually is!
Ethylenediamine is a colorless liquid with odor of ammonia, which dissolves in water forming a solution of pH basic. It’s vapors heavier than air are flammable, and can produce explosive mixtures with air. My dogs do not eat milk bones anymore. Did you know that dogs used to be vegetarians to a large degree? People domesticated them, and started giving them mostly meats. I give my dogs steamed carrots, green beans, and broccoli as well as their regular dog food, and they LOVE it!

Milkbones contain a lot of grains which aren’t great for dogs. Greenies are overpriced and can get lodged in your dogs throat. The best thing are RMBs (raw, meaty bones) and brushing your dogs teeth.

milk bones are high in fat so dont give to many, carrots are great treats for dogs if you REALLY need to give ur dog a treat (like my family members) Though greenies changed there recipe after a few dogs died from eating them, they are not very digestible only give them the amount that the dog weighs. Bone Marrows and Bully Sticks are a better approach but still dont feed them too much it will give them the runs cleaning your dogs teeth is always a good thing and will save you money because the dog isnt gonna need as much dentistry work.

I heard that they are not nutritious at all.
I use baby carrots, ice chips, Wellness treats, pieces of apple, or lamb livers for treats…in MODERATION

Rawhides. My dogs might eat one or two a week at most. They gnaw on them some each day. As for biscuits, one or two a week is fine. Most people give treats WAAAAAYYYY too often. They sometimes get Nutrident(same thing as greenies), every so often, and I haven’t had any problems with them.
